Clerk's Office employees are prohibited by law from giving legal advice and are not qualified to make legal determinations. Information concerning necessary documents cannot be provided, nor can questions concerning legal procedures be answered by this department. If you need to file a suit, we highly recommend that you hire a lawyer. If you cannot afford to hire a lawyer or choose to represent yourself, please see the below recommendations for assistance.
Ask-A-Lawyer clinic
The Shreveport Bar Foundation hosts a free Ask-A-Lawyer clinic staffed with volunteer attorneys each month at the Shreveport Bar Center located at 625 Texas Street, a building owned and operated by the SBF. This event is open to the public, and volunteer attorneys meet with clients for individual, one-on-one legal advice. In a two-hour period, they consult and advise an average of 20 to 30 people per event. Without this service, these individuals would not have the opportunity to speak with an attorney and obtain advice about the resolution of their legal issues. Acadiana Legal Services
Acadiana Legal Services office provides free, specialized, civil legal services to low-income individuals and families across 42 Louisiana Parishes. ALSC is located at 720 Travis Street, Shreveport, LA. Their phone number is 318-222-7186. 26th Judicial District Court Online Self-Help Center
There is information available on an online self-help center through combined efforts of the 26th Judicial District Court and the Louisiana State Bar Association. The website provides legal information to self-represented litigants and can assist you by outlining relevant laws, procedures, and resources. For certain issues, forms are available that you can fill out on your computer and then file with our office. The website is www.26thjdcselfhelp.com
Once you have prepared your pleadings for filing with our office, a new suit with no service is $350.00 and a new suit with one service is $400.00. Our office accepts payments in the form of cash, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.
